Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, they give voice to the oppressed and hold oppressors accountable for their crimes.

Over the years, Human Rights Watch has worked with some of the best photographers in the world. They often risk their lives to document atrocities in war-torn countries. Because these images are so dramatic and the subject matter so sensitive, we felt the design needed to be somewhat stark and act only as a supporting actor in the drama. This helps keep the focus on the emotional impact of the imagery, as well as the overall message.
